I knew he had recovered from serious illness, but I too was surprised and cried at the news of losing Pope Francis. I am grateful we had him as our Holy Father. Many prayers for him.

Gratitude for his life is the perfect emotion. I read something today on Vatican News that Pope Francis recently wrote for a book foreword. It truly struck me as prescient:

“It is precisely the conclusion of these pages by Angelo Scola, a heartfelt confession of how he is preparing himself for the final encounter with Jesus, that gives us a consoling certainty: death is not the end of everything, but the beginning of something. It is a new beginning, as the title wisely highlights, because eternal life, which those who love already begin to experience on earth within the daily tasks of life — is beginning something that will never end.”

Thank you Lisa! I too have been blessed by Pope Francis' example, his writings and his teachings. That he died the day after Easter is profound. I am grateful for his papacy and will miss him.

I was so shocked too, Lisa for the same reasons as you stated. I will truly miss him. May he rest in peace.
